October 26, 2016

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup hot water + ¼ cup warm water
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • melted margarine (can use butter)

Preparation

Yields 32 rolls

Dissolve 2 yeast packets in a bowl with ¼ cup warm water. Add shortening in a large bowl with 1 cup hot water and salt. Allow shortening to melt and let stand to room temperature. Beat eggs and add sugar. Add mixture to shortening mixture. Add in the yeast. Stir in 2 cups of the flour and beat well with wooden spoon. Gradually add in the remaining flour, then cover and let rise in the fridge overnight. The next morning, divide into 2 pieces. Roll out into circles ¼ inch thick and brush on melted margarine. Cut into sixteenths and roll as a crescent. Place the rolls on a greased baking sheet and place a towel over to let rise, about 3 hours. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 minutes. Keep a close eye on them! Brush the tops with additional melted margarine.
