Grapefruit Beer Sour

Over the last couple of years, sour beers have really captured my attention. Something about that mouth puckering quality and dryness get my appetite going. Many sour beers have an acidity akin to that of a lemon. This got me thinking; what if I added one to one of my favorite drinks, the Whiskey Sour?

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 ounce honey syrup
  • ½ ounce lemon juice
  • 1 bottle 405 Brewing Co. Grapefruit Sour Beer

Preparation

Add everything but the beer into a shaker filled ¾ full with ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain into an ice filled rocks glass, top with sour beer, and stir. Rock a piece of lemon peel back and forth over the drink and drop in.

Honey Syrup

Add 1 cup of honey and 1 cup of hot (almost boiling) water to a heatproof bowl or measuring cup. Stir until incorporated. Pour into a clean jar and store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
